Abstract Background

What I Learned

Going into senior year I would not expect to do more than one capstone at a time. Last time I was in school I was a Sophomore. Covid put me through a tough time. Through the whole school year I learned a significant amount of everyday life lessons. I learned how to manage my time with two capstone projects and after school sports. I learned how to handle more than one thing at a time with these capstone projects happening at the same time. With the self-wellness group happening every Friday, and the Robert Clemente happening almost everyday plus sports was quite hard to manage but I did it.

At first I thought capstone was a huge project in order to graduate. But I learned over time that capstone isn’t for the graduation requirement, but for you to give back to your community. Capstone has helped me bring people together. Especially after COVID-19, bringing people together after a hard time is a way for  people to be happy again.

To be honest, before I did not want to do anything with capstone. I thought it was going to be difficult and time consuming. After a while of actually doing my capstone, it was not hard at all. A lot of my classmates do capstone for the graduation requirement. For me, I do my capstone for my community. Especially for my girls. The girls that I work with grew attached to Sophia and I. We also grew attached to them as well. I learned that no matter what age people are I can still have so much in common with them. I can have a relationship with people I meet in the future.

With Roberto Clemente I got out of my comfort zone more than the girl group. I spoke to many important people, spoke to people I never met before, and been to places I never been before. So going through the process of meeting new people and doing new things has taken me out of my comfort zone.

Overall capstone was not hard at all. It was super fun! For our future seniors I would tell them to do a project that they will enjoy. Something they are passionate about. If the seniors aren’t doing something they are passionate about, what is the point of capstone?

Throughout this whole project I would say that I have changed so much as a person. Before I would barely work with people, I would work by myself. With capstone I worked with multiple people, thus I figured out that I like to work with people. I am more of people’s person than before. I would say that figuring out that I am a people’s person is one of my AHA moments.
